The Noise Media

For me, the very best thing about this year has been turning off the noise media. Sometime late last year I was watching Olbermann and thought 'he really has some issue with Hillary Clinton.' I checked in with others and they felt the same thing. Then he turned on her like a rabid dog. About the same time KOS engineered an anti-Clinton coup. Americablog had a fund drive then - without notice - became all Obama love, all the time. Since the head of Huffington is an intellectual near do well, The Huffington Post was always nonsense to me.

By December the Obama adulation had overtaken all of MSNBC and CNN. When Jack Caferty's sexist puss oozed all over midday news I was long gone. The last echoes from the MSM I bothered to listen to came around March when the stick they were hitting us with was "Why doesn't Clinton drop out?"

My transition away from the noise media has been remarkably easy. It was an addiction of sorts for me. But one of those addictions that is easily remedied with a deep surrender. When I was done, I WAS DONE.

Any true alcoholic who has gotten sober can spot a real alcoholic at 100 paces. As a sober drunk, I've spent a hell of a lot of time coming to understand what alcoholism is and how it works. Self - knowledge never gets a drunk sober. But once he/she is sober self knowledge becomes an essential ingredient in maintaining sobriety.

My trip away from addiction to the noise media is somewhat similar. I asked: How did the addiction work for me? What did I get out of it? How does it affect those around me ( in this case the entire society)?

I've come to a simple and obvious conclusion: The noise media exists to tell us what our opinions should be and to manufacture consent for their agenda -whatever it is at the moment - Attacking Iraq or electing Obama, or...

This weekend I had a remarkable example of the effectiveness of the noise media. From 3 very different people, in wildly disparate locals, I heard the exact same talking points about Sarah Palin. Not close approximations - EXACT RENDITIONS. All three were disengaged, and disinterested types who do not follow politics. And yet, the message got through. This is not a Left/Right problem. After all, how many people still think Iraq was connected to 9/11?

Right now, the pathetic dramedy on the Obama Left is that they have much of the media "on their side." They are not handling it well. Many of the same people who spent the long weekend trashing a pregnant 17 year old were rightfully appalled a few short years ago when Michelle Malkin posted the phone numbers of anti-Bush protesters. The media WANTS Obama elected. 5 years ago the media WANTED an invasion of Iraq. I'll break a rule I break too much and make a prediction: If Obama wins, by this time next year much of the media will be ripping him to shreds about Ayres, Rezko and every other currently unreported scandal. They may not need Ayres and the rest, though. The crappy economy will be Obama's and Pelosi's "fault" soon enough. This is an easy prediction to make. Obama is not who he says he is and Pelosi is an unskilled hack. The only change the former can really bring is his skin color and the latter is already the least popular politician since Nixon in 1974.

So the trash and burn party the Obama Left is having now will end when the media decides it is in their best interest to end it. I'll bet the media will kick KOS, HUFF, Obama, and the rest to the curb either in October or sometime next summer if BHO wins.

Am I "news-less"? No , not at all. I am as well informed as ever. Probably more so. By being highly selective AND picking up information in passing I still get plenty of "news". This weekend, by perusing NoQuarter, RCP and glancing at a headline in a corner newsbox, it was quite easy to know the Palin "experience" feeding frenzy was in overdrive. The Daily Kos then attacking her 17 year old child is as surprising as a sunny day in Los Angeles.

The benefits of avoiding the noise media are numerous. Metal clutter is cut down. Time is opened up. I am generally more serene. And - and this is most important: I am much less defensive. A rule of the media game that no one talks about is the invitation to learned helplessness. See, if you and I won't get with their current program (Invade the bad guys! Obama is amazing!) then choice two is to infuriate with the bias. The result is more bias from them and an entire subset of defensive refuseniks. The goal is to keep you and me on the defensive. If we won't play the game, then we must be victims of the game.

Don't be defensive. Respond - but never from a defensive stance. And I don't mean in the streets protesting or anything like that. Protest if it makes sense or write letters...whatever. I am talking about not being defensive in our heads. Example: If Palin's experince is what the MSM is hammering - find out about her experience - but NOT from CNN - and decide for yourself. The disappearance of the American 4th Estate makes me sad as hell, but my sadness will not become learned helplessness.

I own my vote and my opinion. I saw no legitimate reason to support Obama in December, I see none now. In fact, my reasons to oppose him are much more numerous now. No one at CNN or NBC has presented any facts that refute what digging into his background revealed. Therefore, my opinion stands. All the talking boobs on all the talking boob tubes have yet to rationally explain why 20 years in a black Theology church should NOT offend my deepest liberal sensibilities. Most readers here have tipping points like this with Obama. Ayres's group maimed and killed people. Rezko benefited while people froze in BHO's district...He shafted his constituents on Excelon...and on and on... A real leader looks across the table at the Woods Foundation and says "Mr. Ayres, you may have gone free, but I cannot and will not serve if you are here."

I will not join those who say "these things don't matter." My religion and my politics cannot be stuffed into that cubby hole. Wish they could. I tried. These choices by Obama do matter more to me than his current stances. Personal morality rarely matters to me. Personal ethics always do. I don't care if a candidate has group sex with his wife. I do care if a candidate signs off on vicious sexism directed at a female candidate.

For now, the noise media tells me all this is A Okay. Forget it. If the noise media decides to vet the Democratic nominee in the next 6 weeks, I may tune back in. Until then - they cannot and should not be trusted by me - or anyone else.

Lunch Break! Media whores

Not big on posting stuff FROM campaigns. But this piece from McCain is so funny, painful and spot on - it is a must post - and must view. It is absolutely embarrassing how biased and childish the media is about Obama. And it is dangerous and destructive. The Whoring of the Media to Obama is doing damage to the country - and the media should be held to account. Esp when the object of the affection is a fraud on the level Obama is a fraud.
When this is all over I do hope citizens with pitchforks and torches surround CNN and MSNBC in New York and demand justice. I would like to see women line up to slap Chris Mathews across the face.

The Obama infection and the lynching of Hillary Clinton

Obama has injected a poison into the body politic of the United States. The ugliness Obama has stirred up is real and severe - all the more damaging because he is so charming. We are past now the dizzying, frothing, mindless adoration from Huffington and the Daily Kos. We are now past the snotty, childish attacks on Clinton by Olbermann and Caferty. We are into a new realm now. The hatred quietly coached and encouraged by Axelrod is now bubbling forth everywhere.
The media has been taken by over by a hate filled sickness. The nastiness and bias against Senator Clinton is so severe at this point that it can only be called psychosis. Clinton bashing for sport has infected a huge portion of the media. This infection results in a fear of questioning Obama the man - not the hype. But mostly it is a fear to face the cold truth about how much we have willingly surrendered since 9/11. Which is, finally, our soul. This infection has a host. It is the Obama campaign.

The Obama campaign has no basis in reality. Nor does it want a basis in reality. This means anything can be projected on it. Hope, progress, better times, sexism, denial. The man leading this infection is profiting greatly from it. He is a skilled magician. Nothing in his history, and nothing about what he promises indicates an understanding of reality. This makes him the perfect post Bush man. Even questioning his most basic lies - that the Kennedy's brought his father to America - is off limits to those who hold the megaphone.

Our sickness serves them too. The infection is spreading:

Randi Rhodes called Senator Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro "fucking whores" on stage. Do the math with me on this one moment: a liberal female talk show host called the first female V.P. candidate on a major party ticket and the first viable female Presidential candidate "fucking whores".

For fun.

This is a symptom.

Obama supporters are rallying behind and defending Rhodes.

This is a symptom.

The Democratic Governor of New Mexico refused a a call from the Democratic President who appointed him to 2 cabinet posts.

This is a symptom.

Barrack Hussein Obama spent 20 years in a church that preached, bluntly, racial separatism. Yet, the national conversation on this has been stuffed by a media infected.

This is a symptom.

The Obama campaign is responsible for this. I include Olbermann and the rest of the Obama adoration society in the media as part of the BHO campaign. It began last spring with the "1984" video. Barrack Obama has run his campaign with misdirection. Because misdirection is all he has.

It did not have to be this way. He could have run an honorable campaign. But he is not an honorable man. William Ayres, Rezko, Rev Wright and his repeated lies prove this now - beyond doubt. He is a demagogue.

Those of us who have not been infected by the Obama psychosis can see those who are. We can see them clearly. I now hold out no hope that sanity will return. The media has determined that the electronic lynching of Senator Clinton must proceed. Facts be damned.

Whether this means they will turn on him once the nomination is settled or it means BHO is truly the Manchurian candidate I do not know.

I do know we their will be a post Obama moment. A point when those left standing will see clearly what happened. We won't stay unconscious forever.

Until then the infection grows.

Typical

In a follow up interview on a Philly radio station after his "transendent and nuanced" speech on race Senator Obama referred to his grandmother as "a typical white person, who, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know, well there's a reaction that's in our experiences that won't go away and can sometimes come out in the wrong way."

The intrepid Maureen Dowd sees the problem with this soundbite and recommends that he not do it again. She's certainly not going to castigate him for saying it the way she would, if say, Senator Clinton called any African-American a "typical black person."

Ms. Dowd also refers to Senator Clinton as the "Terminator" because she just won't lay down at the feet of the great one and get out of the way of his ascendency. According to Ms. Dowd, Senator Clinton will have to use the Super Delegates to win because she won't have enough regular delegates. She doesn't say that the same holds true for Senator Obama. She also doesn't bother to point out when talking about Governor Richardson's endorsement that he went against the will of the people of his state who voted for Senator Clinton (in a caucus) two to one.

Remember back at the beginning of this campaign, what, ten, fifteen years ago, when the talk on Senator Obama was that he wasn't black enough? You would imagine a REPORTER of news might have tracked down the Reverand Wright story. Or perhaps his links with William Ayers as John points out below. The media decided not to look into Senator Obama or, if they did, decided not to report it.

Senator Clinton said from the onset that we know all there is to know about the bad stuff on her and she was right. Has there been any new scandals associated with Senator Clinton? Sure, some old stuff has been dredged up but compared to what has been brought to light on Senator Obama it's a non-starter.

Senator Obama campaigned with complete confidence knowing that the Reverand Wright story was out there. Reverand Wright said in 2007 that perhaps Senator Obama would have to distance himself from the good Reverand if he got the nod. But where did that confidence come from? He had ties to an indicted slum lord, links to an unapoligetic Black Panther, plagerized speeches and still he acted as though butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. The press went along for the ride and gave him a pass every step of the way. Whether it was a fear of being called racist, a dislike of Senator Clinton or just wanting to keep the narrative going of a tight race they didn't do their jobs.

So what are we left with? Neither candidate is going to have enough delegates to win the nomination outright unless we count Florida and Michigan. Senator Obama's supporters in the Michigan state house blocked a revote. Oh, you didn't hear that in the news? Shocking! There's a law suit here in Florida to get our delegates counted since the States get to decide when they vote, not the party. What the super delegates need to look at is who won the states we need to win the general. Then they need to vote for Senator Clinton.

Is MSNBC biased? Yes. Is the Pope Catholic? Yes.

MSNBC is doing a day long hit job on Hillary Clinton. Dan Abrams, the programming boss, apparently does not have the intellectual depth to comprehend irony. He made this question their BIG story: Does SNL have a pro Hillary bias?
Really, let that sink in. MSNBC is asking if someone ELSE has a bias? If the presidency was not on the line it would be hysterical. It's like a Spitzer girl wondering aloud if women should have premarital sex.
By and large, MSNBC has whored itself out to the Obama campaign in a way that is reminiscent of Bush and Fox News. Fairness and balance are not to be bothered with when it comes to Hillary Clinton. Keith Olbermann's irrational "special comment" on Ferraro is the latest example of MSNBC's devolution into demagoguery. A friend and once loyal watcher of Countdown (he removed it from the Tivo this week) told me today he suspects there is a business decision behind MSNBC's Pro Obama bias. Left leaners already being MSNBC's base and with latte liberals voting BHO they have opted to go for the rich liberal demographic. This idea has merit. I also think MSNBC's sign off on Obama ass kissing may be simpler:

Olbermann is a quintessential white Obamite: self congratulatory, rich, smug and prone to believe his position translates automatically into some sort of special status and wisdom. You see, the rabble (blue collar voters) just doesn't understand how great a man Obama is. I've seen these traits in many Obamites. One told me point blank that Obama lost Florida because Hispanics did not unserstand how to say his name. Keith is a member of this club. A limousine liberal who thinks since he's nice to the help he is working for social justice.

Chris Matthew's is a simpleton with a woman problem. Attacking Clinton goes with the turf. With him all politics is just a big version of the boys hanging on the corner in Philly shooting the shit. A strong, capable woman comes along and confusion defaults to derision. Hillary Clinton doesn't compute in his head so he falls back into boy's club mode.

These are MSNBC's anchor shows - aside from the edifying one in which perverts show up in lovely suburban kitchens wearing only boxers.

Rarely does one see a negative piece on Clinton that is substantive. The tone is always "look what the Clinton's said! My god!" The two SNL skits have gotten so much traction because they give voice to what is so obvious to the rest of us but has yet to seep into Dan Abrams corner office. MSNBC's pro Obama bias is a no brainer. Is MSNBC biased? Yes. Is the Pope Catholic? Yes.

Duh.

BHO drop kicked Rev. Wright off his campaign today. Yes, he was on the campaign despite what the nattering Obamite nabobs bellyached on blogs everywhere. (He can't be held responsible for what a minister says!!! poor Barack! They -"they" being thinking people - are being so mean to him!) So now the Obamite cult has to grapple with more cognitive dissonance - the Reverend's bile doesn't matter so much he had to be fired. "We should sing GOD DAMN America, it's in the bible!" (huh?) is not a bell that will be unrung so easily. Nor is blaming AIDS on the U.S. Government. Obama is not responsible for these vile statements. He is responsible for sticking around to hear them for 20 years.

The Syrian slumlord Obama cash man's trial goes on. Thanks to Jay in (not of) LA for sending me this quote from BHO: "There are no allegations that I was involved in anything wrong."
A simpler answer is "I didn't do anything wrong." I wonder why the great wordsmith did not just say that. I guess Axelrod was off plagiarizing tomorrow's speech.

BHO was on Anderson Cooper and Keith today trying to stem the tide of blood over Rev Wright. This proves the BHO crew understands the political gravity of the hateful man's sermons. I doubt they have any notion of the genuine contempt many American's felt upon seeing the lunatic's sermon on Fox or CNN or the Daily Show.

Finally a commentator on NPR pointed out one of my beefs about the Obama double speak on race. Race CAN be discussed when the social progress that leads to a viable black candidate is the topic. But if any one dares bring it up in any other context (say when BHO goes "black preacher" in front of an African American audience in South Carolina, but never in front of a white audience.) they are to be shunned as insensitive.

If Obama uses his race to get votes the rest of us get to talk about it. End of story.

Clinton uses her gender all the time to get votes. And we all talk about it. She does it out in the open, in front of thousands. Her gender matters. Obama's race matters. Like it or not, Ferraro said nothing that millions of people are not thinking. She wasn't even off base in any real sense. The media has been openly fascinated by the Obama campaign because he is successful and "black". So have many Americans whose memory goes beyond last week's Next Top Model. This is good news in American life. White Obama voters in Iowa pointed out that they voted for him because he was "black." (I use the quotes here only because he is also white. For whatever reason biracial still equals black in America. ) Why was Ferraro hounded for stating the same thing? Because she if for Clinton. That's why. A white supporter voting for BHO speaks to our desire to feel good about our progress. A detractor pointing out that at least part of the BHO joy ride is fueled by what amounts to white self congratulation speaks to the possibility that we might be being taken for a not so joyful ride. Therefore she must be drummed into submission. We can't have any bad feelings about Obama, after all.

But there are bad feelings about Obama everywhere. Wright has lost millions of independent voters to McCain overnight. 25% of Hillary voters state now they'll vote for McCain if Obama is the Democratic candidate. This number is closer to 40% in Southern states. (see Mississippi exit polls)
His campaign has been skillful and mean. From the LBJ distortion, to dishonest mailers, to free lance jaunts to Canada, to a wife whose stump speech is a case study in resentment. For different reasons he has been handled with kid gloves in the media. Fox has an audience that loves seeing Hillary bashed, regardless of whose doing it. CNN is in terror of being called racist. MSNBC sees the possibility of being the go to network in the Obama years. Oprah will surely grace Countdown any moment with a fly by.

Clinton, too, has been easy on Obama. I wish to God she would throw the kitchen sink at the Obama campaign. Kitchen sinks being readily available in this campaign. Why she hasn't is a mystery. She is a better person than me, no doubt.

Clinton has remained quiet on the Obama's Wright connection and relationship. Considering that the loony far Left has vilified her and her husband with schoolgirl glee - I am baffled by Clinton's silence. Obama's campaign has been nasty. As a reader of American History I have no problem with this. Obama's campaign fits the norm in terms of roughness. It actually is a bit weak. (What Adams chucked at Jefferson is the better version of what Obama is doing to Clinton.)

What I loath is that BHO presents himself as a new kind of politician whose above all that. What a crock.
