A friend told me I needed to watch the Palin turkey interview for the comedy value alone. It is painful AND funny. It almost feels like an SNL skit. Palin is, of course, charming, likable and poised. What she needed then and apparently needs now is a good P.R. person. Standing in front of a turkey insanguinater is not visually appealing to say the least. And unless one is a PETA member - it is also funny. People in Palin's position usually have aids whispering sweet nothings like "Governor lets move this interview over a few feet."
Palin is a smart, talented politician. She needs better "help" before 2012.
As for the PODs going loopy about this clip - their reaction says more about them than it does about her. Animal rights nuts are also apoplectic. I have no time for these types - unless they are vegan. Meat eaters who get sentimental about the animals we eat need to put up or shut up.
Turkeys, chickens, cows, and pigs are brutally and ruthlessly killed. They are fed, fattened and slaughtered in factories. It is a nasty business. Don't like it? Stop eating it.
I am posting the ad below not because I endorse Palin as a candidate. I don't. I am almost certainly going to vote Green. However, the shafting of Palin by a biased propaganda machine usually referred to as the "media" has been severe and harsh. The way both Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin have been treated should be of concern to real liberals. The attempt to diminish Palin has been overt. This is classic sexism. Women are not taken as seriously as men. Hence the continuing difference in pay rates. Any way to exploit this lingering stereotype is amplified.
Palin did not help her cause by bumbling at least 3 interviews. But this is a matter of style not substance. Handling a confrontational interview is a learned skill. Given her new appearance on the national scene it should have been expected that she would not be good at it. The fact is Biden is a routinely a disaster in this context. His idiocies are ignored by the media. (When asked about ACORN yesterday Biden lied at least 3 times within a minute.)
The mocking of Palin is analogous to Amos and Andy in the 1930' and 40's. A riff on a stereotype meant to play off the degradation an entire group of second class citizens.
Palin is a relatively new Governor, but she is accomplished and daring. She is more accomplished than BHO by a large margin. I may not agree with some of what she has promoted but she is an effective Executive.
I will not vote for her ticket for policy reasons. Still, it is clear her treatment by the media has been bigoted and nasty.
"Mark my words," the Democratic vice presidential nominee warned at the second of his two Seattle fundraisers Sunday. "It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama..."
From Cannonfire: I don't think I've ever heard such a bizarre prediction from a Vice Presidential candidate. This statement does not strike me as blue-sky conjecture. Something is up. Something specific. Something that will harm or destroy the popularity of a new Obama presidency.
How does this statement not argue for John McCain being elected? If the "world" is going to throw something at us - why not have the guy who has already been tested in office?
Wow an honest reporter at CNN. He said, in essence, "Yes, we are biased" - and then he smiled and moved on.
Finally - why the HELLL is a major candidate suspending his campaign two weeks out to go to Hawaii to see his Grandmother? He's not. Granny is a front. Something is up with the lawsuit in Hawaii regarding his birth records.
A PUMA pointed me toward a ticket to a Palin rally in LA today. USC did not start until five so I went. Or rather I lolly gagged my way to the Home Depot Center - how big could this rally be??? - this is LA - ???
Bad idea. She packed the tennis stadium (10,000) and the over flow sat and watched the jumbo tron where the LA Galaxy Soccer team plays. But I got in. That little green dot in the middle of the pic is Palin. It was fascinating. 2 immediate thoughts: 1. She was introduced by a President of a NOW chapter - wow. 2. She brought up Bill Ayres. I have not decided who I will vote for. I did not go as a supporter of this ticket. I went to see Palin. Anyone who has every been in the same room as Bill Clinton - however big - knows what a "star" is. I wanted to see if she was a "star". I can say without question she is a "new star". The idea of her is clearly electric to her party. She owns the stage like Bill Clinton does. She has not quite mastered the relationship between herself and the crowd. 2 pods made themselves known. One she dropped the house on with a line about fighting for the first amendment. The other she handled by ignoring - which I rarely think works.
A few important take aways for me:
1. The difference between the role of women in the circa 1988 GOP and the 2008 version is something to behold. To say I was flabbergasted that former President of a NOW chapter, talking about equal pay and Geraldine Ferarro, introduced Palin at a large GOP rally is an understatement. This is not the GOP I remember - the one with shrinking, smiling wives off to the side. Think Nancy Reagan. Women were front and center. The code words were "working moms" - but what they were talking about was "robust women as equal partners." "Family Values" as a sledge hammer is out - "Women as a very valuable and equal partner in a family" is in.
2. If she wants it, Palin has a future in her party regardless of the outcome in November. They LOVE this woman - like they LOVED Reagen.
3. The crowd was younger and more racially diverse than I expected it to be. Including more than a few Black Americans.
4. A group of about 40 Obama people demonstrated outside. The chant was "Hey, hey ho, ho Sarah Palin has got to go." This is the most tired chant one can imagine. It is like hippies have taken a page from civil war re-enactors. Dress up as if it is 40 years ago and do a historical play.
5. Of the four people on the ticket, Palin is the only one who is not a member of the "elite." This is true even during her stump speech. When she talked about her father growing up in North Hollywood it feelsentirely sincere and middle class. Even Clinton's talk of being from Hope, Arkansas had the sheen of being canned. It is not that "I want to have a beer" with her. It's that I would not be surprised in the least if I saw her in line at the grocery store. The closest antecedent I can conjure is Harry Truman. Still, even Truman doesn't quite work. She is a mom, not a dad. This feels entirely new in American politics.
6. Having been to Democratic rallies over the years I must say: Republicans are nicer and more respectful. At least the ones I saw today. Everyone picked up their trash. A small, but telling, fact. Plus, is was organized. People stood in line and waited their turn to get in. I know that only an old school Democrat would find this worthy of note.
7. Based on the number of Hilary stickers in the parking lot - PUMA's were represented.
All in all - it is clear to me that the GOP is not my party. But it was a compelling afternoon. Palin is a fascinating figure. Whatever McCain's motives were in choosing her - the choice changed the game. Whether she wins or loses, Palin will be around for a while.
The Obama Left's and the media's lynching of Sarah Palin is obscene. That is pretty much all I really want to say here. But I'll keep going. I am not referring to arguments about policy - that is always fair, and it would be nice to hear Obama yappers stick to policy arguments. Their candidate either says nothing of note or flip flops so this is admittedly difficult for them.
A series of out right lies have been spread about Palin by Obama Pods. These lies have been repeated in the MSM so widely that they now pass as fact.
Palin did not cut funding for special needs education in Alaska by 62 percent. She did't cut it at all. In fact, she tripled per-pupil funding over just three years.
She did not demand that books be banned from the Wasilla library. Some of the books on a widely circulated list were not even in print at the time. The librarian has said Palin asked a "What if?" question, but the librarian continued in her job through most of Palin's first term.
She was never a member of the Alaskan Independence Party, a group that wants Alaskans to vote on whether they wish to secede from the United States. She's been registered as a Republican since May 1982.
Palin never endorsed or supported Pat Buchanan for president. She once wore a Buchanan button as a "courtesy" when he visited Wasilla, but shortly afterward she was appointed to co-chair of the campaign of Steve Forbes in the state.
Palin has not pushed for teaching creationism in Alaska's schools. She has said that students should be allowed to "debate both sides" of the evolution question, but she also said creationism "doesn't have to be part of the curriculum."
Palin never required victims to pay for their own rape kits.
Palin has also been attacked by the Obama Left in the same way they attacked Clinton in the spring. This bullshit has also been widely reported on by the MSM - having the effect of giving propaganda the weight of fact.
Her pregnant 17 year old daughter was vivisected by the Obama Left.
Andrew Sullivan called for a paternity test on her youngest son.
Hypocritical statements about her presumed inability to work and maintain a family came from LIBERALS. Or rather alleged liberals.
In one month her entire life has been dug up, examined, and trashed. Yet, almost anything that questions Obama's narrative is off limits. Even connecting Obama to Fannie Mae's former President is called "racist".
Echoing Randie Rhodes last Spring (who called Clinton a "fucking whore") Sandra Bernhart gleefully called for the gang rape of Palin.
If the MSM had ripped into Biden's numorous idiocies and corrupt familial and credit card company ties I might call this a case of ugly politics as usual.
If the MSM had ever questioned Obama the way Gibson did Palin, I might call this part of the game that must be played.
If the MSM had forcefully reported on the failings of Trinity or Biden's Catholic church I might call this nasty, but fair.
None of this has occurred. The Obama Left and the media have set out to destroy Palin.
I really love the readers here. I had a meeting in Pasadena Saturday and checked in when I got home after 3 - a funny email I posted as a "place holder" had generated some great conversation. I felt so pleased and honored - really I mean that. No B.S.
A reader in Cody, Wyoming sent the pics in for the Sunday "snapshot of your location" section. I love them for a couple of reasons:
1. There are the opposite of L.A. images in so many ways. 2. Wyoming is the "equality" state. Wyoming was the first state to give women the right to vote. They were first to allow women to serve on juries and hold public office. This is a strand of progressive American frontier liberalism that is routinely dismissed by the effete lefty pricks in the Obama/Whole Foods Nation - who often barely conceal their contempt for strong women as anyone who watches Hardball, or reads Andrew Sullivan knows. Despite her conservative politics, Palin emerges from this "Wyoming liberal" tradition. Camille Paglia seems to be the only feminist east coast commentator who has noticed this: Palin represents an explosion of a brand new style of muscular American feminism.
The media is subjecting Palin to a high tech lynching. (guess what tonight's post is called? Yes you are correct..."The lynching of Sarah Palin")
New blog on the block - check it out - Deadenders:Because voting for Barky is not an option. I really like the people behind this blog - let's wish them well -give them a click!
Quote from a regular here I just saw - paraphrased - Telling me how much Sarah Palin and I may disagree on some issues, does not, through some medieval alchemy, morph Obama into a man of character, integrity or experience.
Great point. I have noticed this - the PODS suddenly want to talk about issues when they realize the smoke is drifting and the mirrors have cracked. Policy is not the issue with BHO for most recent ex-Democrats. BHO's mysterious character, toxic associations, lack of judgement and integrity are the issue.
Palin has more experience than Obama. It is a shock to realize this. But it is true.
Palin needs to say one thing at the GOP convention: I expect to be held to the highest standard. I expect to be held to the same standard as Senator Obama. In fact, I welcome it.
During the Democratic primaries Senator Soetoro/Obama played hardball identity politics. Michelle Obama stated simply and directly early on that black voters "would come around." BHO's people then played the race card against the Clintons in one of the more morally depraved moves in recent memory. Insisting the Clinton's are racist is akin to insisting the pope is Jewish. But it worked. Black Democrats voted for BHO at a 90% rate through out the primaries. Obama is "black", after all. This happened despite the fact that both Clintons are better than BHO on issues most Black Americans care about. Obama was able to keep it close because of Black voters - who traditionally have gone with the "blue collar" candidate - this year that candidate was Clinton. His coalition "arugula" voters and Black voters, plus help from the media and cheating in the caucuses - equaled his nomination.
Identity politics got Obama anointed.
Fast forward to Palin. There is no doubt Palin's gender was the deciding factor for McCain.
So what.
The possibility of the first female vice President should excite women. Women should think long and hard about voting for a "sister". Black Americans did exactly that - they voted for a "brother."
The hair pulling and rants on faux liberal blogs is hilarious and pathetic. For over a generation "social justice" liberals have incorporated identity politics into every move they made. "Social justice" - which means nothing in the end - has always been code for "victimhood". True liberals may have used this meme - but the were always out doing the heavy lifting. Cesar Chavez, Dr,. King, and, late in his life, Bobby Kennedy, are examples of liberals who understood that cajoling people to vote solely based on their racial identity was a fools errand. These men were not after "social justice" - they were after justice, period. The pollution of the true American Left by the "social justice" victimhood entrepreneurs has stunted the real progressive agenda for a generation. It is a virus. It has worked against people of color attaining equality. It is anti- progressive. Asians who did not fall victim to identity politics have moved rapidly up the ladder. What White arugula "liberals" can't abide is the fact that racism has lessened. A lot. Without a subculture of victims arugulas have no power.
The "experience" horse crap coming from the arugula left is just hilarious. It will also become clearly sexist in short order. The female Palin is already being held to a different standard than the male Obama. The bigotry against women will be exploited by Kos, Avarosis, and the rest for the next 2 months. Pelosi, who finds any woman with power other than herself, dangerous is no doubt cringing.
In classic Arugula "liberal" form they refuse to accept that both sides can play identity politics.
Well, John McCain just did. Get over it. Live by identity politics, die by identity politics.
The brain dead aspect of the arugulas that I have hammered at here is on full display right now. It goes to a core belief that people like Huffington, Olbermann, and Obama carry just below the surface: "We know better than the unwashed masses." I believe this comes directly from attaining unearned wealth and/or unearned positions. Huffington has forced her opinions on us by virtue of marrying well. Olbermann talks nonsense and makes 6 figures. Obama has risen and risen while accomplishing exactly nothing. Michelle Obama made millions sitting on the board of a Wal Mart supplier. These people jet from Aspen to Brentwood never dirtying their fingers - all the while opining to real workers and dismissing them at the same time.
Mrs. Palin lives in a REAL union household. Damn right, that appeals to this liberal. While Obama caved to Exelon, Mrs. Palin took on her own party's corruption in Alaska. Damn right, that appeals to this liberal. Obama let poor people freeze in his district, while pal Rezko made millions. There is nothing "liberal" about this.
As a feminist, the fact that McCain's campaign has an equal pay for equal work policy and Obama's does not matters to me. And, damn right, as a liberal, shattering the glass ceiling the DNC refused to break appeals to me.
Obama has never appealed based on policy. He appealed to liberal guilt, delusion and based on his self created persona.
If women decide to look past policy differences and vote for a female vice president based solely on her gender - it should not surprise Obama. Arugulas have exploited identity politics for a very long time, after all.
Seriously, the DEMS should be embarrassed, except they are too stupid and delusional to feel shame and embarrassment at their asinine anointment of the BRAT from Chicago.
Check out the comparrison between the GOP V.P. nominee and the DEM Prez. nominee. here
PALIN IS VEEP! If so this is the FIRST GOP WOMAN ON the PARTY TICKET! Bloomberg is reporting Palin is the one. Wow, McCain is going after it. If Palin can hold up under pressure - she is a game changer. I was not going to vote for McCain or that other what's his name from Chicago - but Palin gives me pause. A vibrant, corruption, fighting mom on a Harley...damn right I'll give THAT a closer look.
