ERA, Finally

I like strong women. Maybe because I am one. I'm not threatened by other women's success. I applaud it because it raises the possibilities for all of us. We shouldn't be disqualified because we're menstruating, gestating or lactating. Judge us on our merits.

John McCain has surrounded himself with strong women. He pays them the same as he pays his male staffers. He's of an age where he could call women "sweetie" but he doesn't.

Our John has said over and over we need to stay on offense. Not be victims. Wah, my former party threw me out, wah, can you believe what they said? Governor Palin is no victim. Had Senator Clinton delivered that speech during the primaries we would have a very different race right now. She would have been called shrill, too, of course. Shrill is code for - you just said something true I can't spin, wah!

If you had told me a year ago that I would watch the Republican convention and not the Democratic, that I would have switched to No Party Affiliation, that I would be voting Republican I would have told you to get off the pipe. If you had told me that it would be the Democrats criticizing a woman for not staying home with the kids I would have called you nuts. But, here we are.

As John said below, Governor Palin is the point of equal rights. You can't say she got where she is because of her husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather or any other man. She got where she is by herself. She doesn't want to pull the ladder up after her and she acknowledges the women who came before her.

That is a great message for all women.
